TEFL Online Pro Review: Clarifying Facts, Course Comparison, and Online Misinformation

At TEFL Online Pro, we are committed to providing accurate information, high-quality TEFL certification, and support for our graduates worldwide.

Recently, there has been misinformation circulating online about our courses, including comparisons with other providers and misleading claims about our certificates. This post aims to clarify the facts, present a detailed course comparison, and help prospective students make informed decisions based on evidence and verified reviews.

The Online TEFL Industry

The online TEFL industry is:

  • Largely unregulated
  • Highly competitive
  • Heavily influenced by affiliate marketing

These factors can sometimes result in biased comparisons or misleading claims. Prospective students should review evidence-based information and check sources carefully before making decisions.

Affiliate Content and (TTA) The TEFL Academy

The TEFL Academy underwent a change in ownership at the height of the pandemic. Their current business model includes affiliate marketing to promote their courses. While affiliate marketing is a legitimate practice, it can create situations where:

  • Negative claims about competing providers appear online
  • Affiliates may present information that is not fully substantiated
"My Bad Experience with TEFL Online Pro" - r/TEFL Reddit post

The image above is a screenshot taken from a post published on the r/TEFL subreddit, written by Megan Broccoli. TEFL Online Pro doesn’t charge for digital certificates and we have never sold a course for $147.50.

Specific Examples

  • Caitriona McTiernan (affiliate marketer): Posted a critical Reddit post and blog content about TEFL Online Pro, followed by multiple coordinated comments.
  • Megan Broccoli (affiliate marketer): Posted similar content and publicly claimed, within approximately one hour of completing our course, that our certificates were “useless”. Based on our experience supporting graduates since 2019, this timeline raises questions, as applying for and securing English teaching work normally takes days or weeks, making such an immediate conclusion highly unlikely.

We include supporting imagery showing their affiliation with The TEFL Academy for transparency.

ESLinsider (Ian Patrick Leahy)

Ian Patrick Leahy operates the website ESLinsider. He has been banned from Facebook, since 2017, for spreading misinformation on the platform. ESLinsider is prolific in:

  • Publishing reviews and comparison content about TEFL providers
  • Simultaneously promoting its own TEFL courses

This creates a potential conflict of interest, as content may be biased in favor of his own program. Readers should evaluate information with awareness of these incentives.

ITTT (International TEFL and TESOL Training)

International TEFL and TESOL Training has used the TEFL Online Pro brand name in blog posts and online advertising, including Google Ads. As a result, searches for TEFL Online Pro may sometimes lead to ITTT content. We recommend that prospective students carefully check URLs and sources to check they are accessing the intended provider.

This tefl-online-pro-reviews.com website was established by TEFL Online Pro as a platform where we can address disinformation and misinformation, as well as showcasing TEFL Online Pro verified customer reviews.

r/TEFL

We have also observed trends within r/TEFL, a niche Reddit community dedicated to discussions about TEFL. While the forum can provide general discussion and advice, we have identified patterns suggesting that certain providers may be favored or promoted, while others are disparaged.

Specifically:

  • Some comments and other content on the subreddit appear commercial in nature, written anonymously, and clearly promoting specific TEFL programs
  • Examples include posts by The TEFL Org and The TEFL Academy, which are seemingly allowed to remain visible despite being promotional
  • The source of the subreddit moderators is reportedly China, where a few TEFL programs are registered, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest or moderation bias

We include screenshots of these posts for readers to evaluate independently. This evidence highlights why r/TEFL may not be a reliable or neutral source for comparing online TEFL programs.

Note: Prospective students should consider Reddit content as supplementary insight rather than a definitive guide, and focus on verified reviews and transparent sources.

Course Comparison: TEFL Online Pro vs The TEFL Academy

To help prospective students make informed decisions, we provide a side-by-side comparison of our 120-hour Professional TEFL/TESOL course with The TEFL Academy’s 168-hour Level 5 course.

Unlike The TEFL Academy, we operate fully online. We don’t have large office rental overheads, allowing us to pass these savings directly to our students without compromising course quality or accreditation.

Verified TEFL Online Pro Reviews

We strongly encourage prospective students to review verified TEFL Online Pro reviews to see authentic student experiences. Verified reviews provide insight into:

  • Course quality
